Shivarartri

  • Atmavidya Yoga and Meditation 10 Plover Street Christchurch, Canterbury, 8062 New Zealand (map)

Shivaratri is a powerful time to dedicate to deepening connection to consciousness.

Shivaratri symbolises the victory of light over darkness and ignorance.

This time invites Consciousness (Shiva) as the cosmic dancer (Nataraja) generating the whole cycle of life as creation, preservation, and dissolution.

At this time we can be aware of where in our lives we can apply more restraint and where we can offer our hearts more, to create space for inner transformation.

Shivaratri is a time to turn inwards and deepen the inner connection through:

  • restraint through fasting (taking something out of your life or diet that you usually have or usually enjoy a lot);

  • staying awake for a period of the night you might normally be asleep and chant or sing a Shiva mantra;

  • sink deeply into your Heart centre and keep returning there, whatever distractions may come (in the body, in the mind, thoughts and feelings).

The timing: Shivaratri starts 12.34 am Monday 16 February and ends Tuesday 1.0 4am Tuesday 17 February
